We have Kennel Club approval to hold an Import Register Match on Gundog Day at the Birmingham National Dog Show at Staffordshire County Showground, Weston Road, Stafford, ST18 0BD. Many thanks to the organisers for giving us permission to host this very special event - this is a first!
It will be between three breeds currently on the Import Register: the Portuguese Pointer, the Korthals Griffon and the Slovakian Rough-haired Pointer.
So, please, please, come along and support our wonderful Breed. It's really important to show that the Korthals Griffon is a force to be reckoned with and it will be great fun too. This is the first big step towards our own breed classes.
Of course, you can make it a bigger day out and enter the Import Register classes at the Championship Show itself as well. Let's try and keep this one in the Korthals Griffon family as Sage won last year but won't be there this time.
It is anticipated that the Match will start at 1pm in the ring used by the Import Register Classes earlier in the day. The judge will be announced on the day.
Entry to the Match will be £2 per dog entry on the day. Monies raised will cover the the cost of the event and any surplus can be donated to the Kennel Club Health Fund.
For dogs entered at the show in Import Register there will be no additional entry charge to the showground, but please remember to retain your exit pass to remove your dog.
To enter Import Register classes for the National Dog Show costs £14, and you compete in the show, with a chance to get into the Group Final in the Best In Show ring, qualify for Crufts next year, take home rosettes and a commemorative prize card and have your own bench for your dogs.
Entries close 28th March on line at https://www.dog.biz (look for the National Dog Show).
For anyone wishing to enter the match who are not entered in the actual show, there are a number of options to get into the showground:
- Spectator Dog - £5 and then your £2 entry to the Match
- There is also a Kennel Club "Have a Go Dog Show" starting at 2.30pm. You get advice on how to handle or show your dog, prizes for 1-10th place. This is restricted to 30 dogs and entry is £10 via the Kennel Club website https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/events/have-a-go-dog-showing/
A Match is a knock-out competition where the exhibitors are given a number and these are randomly drawn to challenge each other, with the evential winners challenging each other to select the overall winner.
Champions are not eligible for entry in the Match, although we hope that they will participate in the Parade of Champions - nominal fee £1.
There is no requirement, but if you felt like letting me know if you intend to come along, that would be great. I really hope we can achieve a good turnout for this. If you have any questions, our committee member, judge and top handler Rachel Spencer will try to help. Just let us know.
